A gang of robbers did not anticipate discovering a large pile of coins when they broke into a truck containing $750,000 worth of dimes, but they managed to seize a portion of the cargo and left the coins scattered throughout a parking lot in Philadelphia, according to officials.
The authorities reported that the robbers apparently absconded with at least $100,000, but it is unclear how they managed to transport the enormous amount of dimes. The incident was reported on Thursday at around 6 a.m. The driver of the tractor-trailer had collected the dimes from the Philadelphia Mint the previous day and was supposed to transport them to Florida on Thursday.
Philly Police say thieves broke into an unmarked trailer overnight that contained about $750,000 in dimes near Franklin Mills Blvd.

It remains uncertain how many individuals may have been involved in the robbery or if they were aware of the truck’s contents. The responding officers discovered hundreds of dimes scattered across the parking lot, and authorities were still trying to assess the value of the stolen money.
